On the top floor of the palazzo, there’s a bit of a sag on one of the bedroom floors. We figured it was due to water leaking in from the known roof issues but we wanted to check it out. We also wanted to see what kind of beams were underneath, as we’re considering leaving some rooms with exposed ceilings.
Our builder grabbed a hammer and a ladder and quickly opened up a bit of the ceiling so we could take a look at what we had. Fingers crossed for some big, beautiful tree trunk beams that we could refinish.
Instead, we got this.
<Insert sad trombone sound here> Not only were the beams themselves not super photogenic, we found the source of the floor dip – that giant crack you see clear as day.
Well, you win some, you lose some, right?
Of course we were anticipating we’d run into issues with a home this old, and the ceiling isn’t one of the painted ones down on the lower floors. At least we know what we’re dealing with, how to fix that floor sag, and what we’ll need to do for that ceiling when the time comes.
