Where there’s a will, there’s a bonus.

I think my gravestone might read. “Here lies Nikko, she always figured it out.” I am not giving up yet so I have been reading every article I can find on the bonuses the Italian government offers.

The first big issue is that the rules seem to change on a daily basis and definitely with each new year or new election. The second issue is that figuring out how to actually get the bonuses is like panning for gold – there’s no clear direction and you have to wade through lots of dirt in order to find the shiny stuff.

You often get one answer from one person, and another answer from another. You get told “no” a lot… until you find the one person who can say “yes” because they know a little nugget of info that no one else does. Online, the good stuff is all in Italian, so this would all be impossible if not for Google translate.

At this point, everyone is freaking out because, while you can get the credits, you can’t do anything with them unless you are willing to front the money and deduct from your income. Construction companies are at risk of bankruptcy, work has stopped in the middle of projects, and banks have reneged after promising to buy the credits. It has gotten pretty ugly with many people giving up and just going it on their own.

But I am determined. There is a way, and I will find it.
