One of the things that made us fall in love with Pieve di Teco is that despite being a centuries-old city, it’s still the hub of so much activity in the region. It’s where all the small neighboring towns with few services come – for banking, gas, groceries and more. It’s also host to tons of events and festivals that make it fun and lively year-round.
Pieve holds bi-monthly art fairs as well as bi-monthly antique markets for most of the year. And they’re home to tons of festivals and parades. When Nikko was there last, her visit happened to coincide with Carne Valle.
Here’s where I admit I thought “Carne Valle” would be a “Meat Festival.” I mean, the town has paella and wine festivals. Why not a meat festival? But Carne Valle is a traditional street festival, with floats that come down through the centro storico (right in front of out place), confetti everywhere, carnival games, music, food, wine and pinatas for the kids.
It’s so fun to see the town turn out for these and really get into it. (In fact, so into it, some residents were still partying up and down the street long after the crowds had gone home.
