It’s all about relationships.

I am an introvert by nature even though I try very hard not to be. I have also been told I am very matter of fact and at times too direct and “all about business”. But I also realize that getting somewhere in life, or in this case getting something done, is often about relationships. To that end, I’m trying to forge relationships with the people that are going to work on the house with the hope that they will see me as a friend rather than just a client. You see, it can be very hard to get things done in Italy. Hell, I have witnessed first had how hard it is to get houses remodeled in the US, so it is not only an Italian issue. Truly the only way to get things done is to be on-site every day but that is just not possible given that we live in the US at the moment. So I am hoping if we all have a more personal bond, it will help. This last week I broke bread with Antonio and Andrea, two of the three men heading the building company. One speaks some English, the other not at all, and I don’t speak Italian. But meeting over a great Italian meal is always a good idea.

The impetus for the second meal was to go see a house that Antonio’s family owns to see if I knew anyone that might want to buy it. It is in a lovely village near Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena, a medieval village above the hills of Albenga. I promised Antonio I would put the word out just in case someone was looking. So here are some photos. Nicely remodeled with lots of details, unobstructed view, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths plus a large finished cantina with pizza oven. Great rustic restaurant in the village below where we had our second meal in three days.
