Super Summer Update!

We’ve been posting individual stories as they pop up, but it’s time for a mega-update. Nikko just spent a week in Pieve seeing the progress firsthand. So here’s a palazzo speed round for you.

Elevator and stairs: If you missed this post, check it out. It’s the perfect story about having to roll with the punches and make changes on the fly. Hopefully we’ve found a final solution.

Roof: The roof was scheduled to be done weeks ago. But a combination of lots of rain, trouble getting materials, and a few other factors have pushed out the schedule. Beautiful beams are going up though, and we’re pushing for the end of the month to finish.

Facade: Possibly the most dramatic progress so far, the old exterior was removed front and back, and a new base coat of stucco applied to the outside. The next step involves adding seismic mesh and then a final finish coat. After allowing that to sufficiently dry, the final color will go on and windows will go in. Railings are soon to be sanded and painted, too.

Color: Speaking of the final color! The Comune decides on our color and we had hoped it would be the yellow color already on the back of our home. But the Comune said red. Read the story here. Now we’re hearing they may make us do red on the front and yellow on the back! But hey, it’s not within our control, so we’ll just go with whatever they tell us.

Interior: Demolition of the walls is basically complete. A few ceilings have come down to replace a few beams. We have plans for where the new walls will go. Yes, it looks like a bomb went off, but this is great progress and gives us the perfect platform to start adding plumbing and electrical. We’ve made some initial decisions about doors, too.

So that’s where we’re at. Moving forward on some parts, behind schedule on others. Sticking to plans in some areas. Changing them up in others. In short, your standard renovation. Enjoy some recent pics!
